Guidelines for Placing Advertisements

After a position has been approved and posted to the University of Oregon Careers page, advertisements may be placed. Departments should carefully review the letter and the packet for changes and make adjustments as needed. Attention should be paid to recruitment scope (National, Regional, or Local) for the minimum length of time to advertise. Recruitment strategies may need to be revised to target specific underutilized group members.

The department or unit head is responsible for ensuring that outreach and recruitment efforts reach and attract a diverse pool. The Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity can provide assistance with identifying specific outreach resources for women and people of color.

Since a search could potentially result in the hiring of a foreign national who will apply for permanent alien labor certification, it is important to be informed about the job posting requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor. Failure to do so may result in significant delays in the appointment process or even a need to re-do the search.
