Family and medical leave allows an employee to take time off from work due to their own serious health condition or that of a family member's or to care for a new child. There are several stages of the medical leave process.
The employee requests leave by notifying their supervisor or HR. If they meet the minimum qualifications and are eligible for leave based on medical certification, then they receive a leave entitlement. Visit the Qualifications & Eligibility webpage for more information.
While on leave, the employee keeps HR and their supervisor informed of their leave status and report time by completing an attendance record.
When the employee is able to return to work or they exhaust their leave entitlement, their leave ends.
