Training for New Employees

New employees at the university will have specific training needs depending on the duties of their position and the requirements of their unit.  It is the responsibility of an employee's supervisor, with the support of an HR partner, to guide employees through an appropriate onboarding and training process.  On this page, you will find information about: 

  • Mandatory training for all new employees
  • General training recommended for all new employees, regardless of their specific role
  • Required training for some new employees dependent on specific roles, responsibilities, or access needs to university data and systems.

Training Description

Workplace Harassment and Discrimination Prevention Training

This training provides information on how to recognize workplace harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, as well as your reporting obligations under UO's Prohibited Discrimination & Retaliation policy. It is required for all faculty, officers of administration, classified staff, and graduate employees.

New Employee Orientation Programs: Mission, Shared Responsibilities, & Engagement Opportunities

[Synchronous online training]

This session focuses on responsibilities, community standards, and campus resources and engagement.  If you are new to the University, we encourage you to attend this workshop designed for officers of administration, classified staff, and faculty.

Navigating Learning and Development Opportunities at UO

At the University of Oregon, we believe that all employees deserve to learn, grow professionally, and advance in their careers. This training provides an overview of the wide range of learning and professional development opportunities available to faculty and staff.

This e-learning course reviews training offered by university departments and external facilitators, funding opportunities for fee-based development activities, and how to find learning activities and track your professional development using the MyTrack Learning Management System and LinkedIn Learning.

UO Cybersecurity Basics

The goal of the UO Cybersecurity Basics training is make you more aware of cybersecurity threats facing the University of Oregon, some of the countermeasures in place to help mitigate the threats, and some meaningful actions you can take to help keep yourself and the university secure.

UO Digital Content Accessibility Training

[eLearning, 2hrs]

This training is for all faculty, staff, and GEs who create or edit digital content or documents, and will help you understand how people with disabilities are impacted by digital accessibility and will explain the basics of what you need to do to make your content accessible to people with disabilities.  Examples of digital content include Word documents, PDFs, videos, flyers, emails, electronic textbooks, PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, charts, Canvas courses, and most other types of documents and media accessed via computers or mobile devices.

UO Conflict of Interest, Conflict of Commitment, Outside Activities Policy

This session reviews the background and history of the policy, describes the basic elements of the policy, and discusses the disclosure process associated with the policy. This session is applicable to all UO employees.

Understanding Implicit Bias

This workshop introduces the concept of implicit bias. We will explore some harmful side effects of how our brains naturally perceive, categorize, and draw inferences about the world, including other people. We will talk about what practical steps we can all take to try to reduce or eliminate it as well as what has been shown not to work.

FERPA 101- Introduction to FERPA at the UO

This staff and faculty training explains the basics of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the UO Student Records Policy.  This training will be useful for new employees who work with student data and will also be a good refresher for anyone who has questions or concerns about student records.

Introduction to Banner Online Training Class

This is an online training course that provides an overview of the Banner software.   It is designed for UO employee's whose job responsibilities require them to have access to either the FIS (Finance Information System), HRIS (Human Resources Information System), or A/R (Accounts Receivable) modules in Banner.
