Purpose:
Provide an understanding of employee and labor relations, knowledge of laws, policies and procedures, grievance and arbitration, management principles, general concepts and terms, and delegated roles and responsibilities.
Learning outcomes include:
- Understanding of the different employee groups at UO.
- Working with a unionized workforce including collective bargaining agreements, incident reporting and the disciplinary process.
- ADA fundamentals and accommodation, and where to find resources and how to get support.
Competencies:
The UO HR Community embodies a shared set of practices and competencies. This training targets the following competencies within the Employee & Labor Relations subject area.
- Understands and demonstrates knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, UO policy/procedure, applicable unit level policies and procedures, principles and practices related to employee conduct, employee leaves, workplace accommodations, motivation, performance, rewards, and dispute resolution.
- Understands concepts related to progressive discipline, investigations, just cause/due process, Weingarten rights, union rights around communicating with members (signs, shirts, postings, email, etc.)
- Understands practices and policies at UO regarding a unionized workforce, including the ELR interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and applies strategies to guide performance management, employee conduct and other employee work life issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees, supervisors and the ADA coordinator on accommodation analyses including but not limited to undue hardship reviews, reasonable accommodations, and funding sources.

You will learn about policies and process in place at the university and will review the human-centered, interactive process used to determine and implement effective reasonable accommodations for UO employees. |
ADA Fundamentals for HR Supervisors [eLearning, 30m] | This training provides an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act and its amendments (the ADA) and focuses on the responsibilities of supervisors in supporting workers with disabilities. |

It is intended for HR partners, supervisors, and anyone else working directly with this employee group. After completing this introductory overview, you will have a better understanding of the United Academics Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and policies and procedures related to faculty employment at the UO. |
Discipline and Weingarten Rights at the University of Oregon [eLearning, 30m] | In this training, supervisors will learn about the disciplinary process at the University of Oregon and about the specific rights of employees who are facing possible disciplinary action, including the right to union representation during an investigatory interview, called Weingarten Rights. |
Supervisory Files at the University of Oregon [eLearning, 30m] | This training contains information about keeping supervisory files for SEIU-represented classified employees at the University of Oregon. It is intended as a general overview for supervisors on the nature of supervisory files, what should be included in such files, and how such files should be used and maintained. |
UO Conflict of Interest, Conflict of Commitment, Outside Activities Policy [eLearning, 30m] | The Conflict of Interest, Conflict of Commitment, and Outside Activities Policy (COI/COC Policy) applies to all UO employees and provides a pathway for employees to receive outside compensation.This eLearning module provides an overview of the COI/COC Policy. It offers examples of common outside activities requiring disclosure, how to submit a disclosure in the Research Administration Portal, what happens to a disclosure once it's submitted, and the management plan process. |

Policies and Procedures: Student Workers - A Training Course for Supervisors of Student Employees [eLearning, 40m] | This e-learning course covers policies and procedures surrounding student employment at the University of Oregon. In addition to reviewing the policies, it outlines best-practices for their application and walks supervisors through real-life scenarios they might encounter with student employment in their departments. |
Leadership in Student Supervision: An Introduction to Supervisory Strategies and HR Policies [Instructor Led workshop, 3h] | This workshop will provide practical information, resources and tools on policies, laws and effective procedures and practices for hiring, supervising, and supporting the performance and development of student employees. It will cover the differences between supervising students and supervising other staff, including the relevance of facilitating student's professional development. This workshop will also provide concrete recommendations for effective job description drafting, recruiting, hiring, scheduling, orienting, training, evaluating, and coaching students to operate as effective members of your staff and to prepare them intentionally for the world of work. |
Supporting a Respectful Work Environment - Supervisor Development [On-demand presentation, 65m] | This recorded presentation will focus on the University expectations around creating and supporting a respectful work environment as a supervisor. The presentation will examine the definition of respect and how you can model respectful behavior in your role. |
