Tenure Reduction Program (TRP) Sunsetting Questions

New Deadline: Tenure Reduction Program (TRP) applications will not be accepted after 12/15/2025.

What does this mean?
All applications need to be signed and submitted to department heads no later than 12/15/2025. After department and school/college approval, departments will upload forms within one week of receipt for HR review and provost approval. To receive the 6% salary increase for fall term (9/16/2025), a faculty member must submit their application to their department head no later than 9/15/2025. Applications signed 9/16/2025 through 12/15/2025 will have a winter term effective date (12/16/2025) for their salary increase.
Law school faculty need to submit their applications to their department head by 8/15/2025 to have their increase effective for fall semester (August 16. 2025). Law faculty who submit TRP applications between 8/16/2025 and 12/15/2025 will have an increase effective date of 1/1/2026.

What happens if I don't sign up before December 15, 2025?

You will not be able to participate in TRP. You can retire outside of TRP on your own schedule but cannot participate in the program. You may continue to receive post-retirement appointments by mutual agreement outside of TRP.

What is the latest retirement date with the new deadline?

Faculty member must be eligible to retire by 6/30/28 to apply for TRP. The retirement date cannot exceed 6/30/28. This will be the latest accepted retirement date on TRP applications. Employees must meet retirement eligibility by this date in order to be eligible for TRP.

Do summer courses count as TRP appointments?

No, summer term is not a regular academic term and is considered Pro Tempore work for most faculty members. Summer courses do not count against the post-retirement appointments provided by TRP.

Are there any changes to the TRP program for current participants?

No, current TRP positions and applicants will retire and receive post-retirement appointments in accordance with their signed agreements.

How do the 9/1/25 across-the-board salary increase and the 6% TRP increase interact?
The 6% TRP increase will be applied to the salary after the 9/1/2025 across-the-board increase has been applied.

Why are TRP signups ending?

The end of the Tenure Reduction Program is the result of an agreement between United Academics and the university, which is a commitment to reinvest funds previously dedicated to a limited number of retiring tenured faculty to a greater number of TTF across their careers.
