Floating Holiday 2025-26

In response to employees’ diverse cultural and personal needs, the university offers a floating holiday for eligible employees. The floating holiday may be used to observe a day of cultural or religious significance, remembrance, or other personal value or tradition. Supervisors should support employees in using this holiday between December 1, 2025 and November 30, 2026. The floating holiday must be taken in full-day increments. It may not be used for partial-day leave.

Classified Employee Information

Special Day of Leave

  • Full-time classified employees receive eight hours of leave, prorated for part-time staff.
  • Classified employees may request to use this paid leave on any mutually agreeable day during the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) in which it is earned. Where no day during this time can be mutually agreed upon, another day of the employee’s choice shall be granted, provided that approved usage does not create the closure of facilities. This day must be used no later than June 30 of the fiscal year or it is forfeited and is not compensable. The university may be open those days, and time off should be scheduled to maintain departmental services.
  • The special day of leave must be taken in full-day increments. It may not be used for partial-day leave.

Temporary Employees
SEIU- represented temporary employees are not eligible for holiday pay but do earn time-and-a-half for work performed on a recognized holiday.

Special Day of Leave for Other Employee Groups

  • The special day of leave for officers of administration and faculty on 12-month appointments may be used on any working day from the day before Thanksgiving through January 31.
  • Holiday time and the special day of leave are prorated for part-time employees.
