Fair Share Fees (posted June 27, 2018):
On June 27, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision regarding “fair share” dues. The ruling declares illegal under free speech principles the current practice of collecting agency fees, commonly referred to as "fair share" fees from its represented employees.
The university is working to implement the court’s decision in order to ensure compliance with the law and is taking steps to stop the deduction of fair share fees from employees’ paychecks unless those employees have affirmatively become a member of the union and have “clearly and affirmatively” consented to pay dues to the union. More information will be provided as details become available.
Please contact your union for information regarding union membership status. It is important to note, that university cannot directly process union membership requests. Those requests must be made to the union.
