The following scenarios help you navigate leave options during the university’s COVID-19 response.
Off work due to personal illness other than COVID-19.
- UO emergency paid sick leave
- Sick leave
- Vacation Leave
- Leave without pay – with approval from leadership that is generally granted based on operational need
- FMLA/OFLA – based on qualifications and eligibility requirements
Off work due to your own:
- Seeking or awaiting results of a COVID-19 test; OR
- COVID-19 diagnosis; OR
- medical provider or public health authority recommended quarantine or isolation.
- Flexible work arrangement – consult supervisor, department head, or program director for unit guidance
- UO emergency paid sick leave
- Sick leave
- Vacation Leave
- Leave without pay – with approval from leadership that is generally granted based on operational need
- FMLA/OFLA – based on qualifications and eligibility requirements
- Exception process - administered through University Human Resources
- Employees may be eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
- Employees may be eligible for the Oregon COVID-19 Temporary Paid Leave Program
Off work due to obtaining immunization related to COVID-19:
- Attending a COVID-19 vaccination appointment during scheduled UO work time will be considered paid time. Appointments that are scheduled during non-work time will not.
Off work due to recovering from any injury, disability, illness, or condition related to obtaining immunization for COVID-19:
- Flexible work arrangement - needs based approval, if asymptomatic

- FMLA/OFLA - based on qualifications and eligibility requirements

Off work to care for a dependent/family member with a personal illness including a COVID-19 diagnosis.
