Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

The University of Oregon is a qualifying employer for public service loan forgiveness. Employees who have Federal Direct Loans and have made 120 payments on the Federal Direct Loans (after Oct. 1, 2007) may be eligible for the remaining loan balance to be forgiven. Only payments made under certain repayment plans may be counted toward the required 120 payments, and loans must not be in default to be forgiven. The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program is administered by Federal Student Aid an office of the U.S. Department of Education.  It is not a UO administered program. However, if an employee chooses to apply to this program, the UO Human Resources Office will complete a section of the Employment Certification form to certify their employment with the university. Student Loan Assistance

Oregon Public University Retirement Plans (OPURP), in partnership with TIAA, offer Oregon public universities' employees and their immediate family members assistance through Savi, a service that helps you navigate programs to find relief from student debt. Savi can help you strengthen your financial footing in the short-term and position you for student loan forgiveness by exploring:

  • Payment reduction options.
  • Student debt relief programs.

The employee elects services and assumes responsibility for associated fees.
