Board Room, EMU
THE ALZHEIMER'S PROJECT is a presentation of HBO Documentary Films and the National Institute on Aging. One of the most devastating forms of memory loss is Alzheimer's disease, an irreversible and progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills. Today, Alzheimer's is the second most-feared illness in America, following cancer, and may affect as many as five million Americans. As the baby-boomer generation moves through retirement, that number could soar to more than 11 million by 2040. While there is no cure for the disease, THE ALZHEIMER'S PROJECT shows there is now genuine reason to be optimistic about the future. Created by the award-winning team behind HBO's acclaimed "Addiction" project, this four-part series takes a close look at groundbreaking discoveries made by the country's leading scientists, as well as the effects of this debilitating and fatal disease both on those with Alzheimer's and on their families. Series Dates: October 29, November 5, November 19 and December 3.
"Momentum in Science" is a two-part state-of-the-science film that takes viewers inside the laboratories and clinics of 25 leading scientists and physicians, revealing some of the most cutting-edge research advances.

Balanced Living Monthly Newsletters
Step Up!
Yes, we need to do more…daily physical activity.
Oregonians are too sedentary. Only half of us meet the minimum recommendation of 30 minutes of physical activity each day and our health is at risk. Being physically active every day is an important goal for all of us to achieve.
How much physical activity do I need?
• 30 minutes each day for overall health and to decrease risk for diseases
like heart disease, cancer and diabetes
• 60 minutes each day for managing body weight and preventing weight gain
• 60 - 90 minutes each day for sustaining weight loss
How do I fit this much physical activity into my day?
Some people set aside time to work out at fitness centers, take classes
or go on hikes or bike rides with friends and family. Others find
ways to fit physical activity into their daily routines like:
• Walking or biking to the bus stop or all the way to work
• Walking at lunch time
• Holding walking meetings
• Walking or biking to run errands, go to the library, park, or visiting
friends
• Walking the dog
