Employee Benefit Fund Policy

The Employee Benefit Fund was established in 1978 when additional funds became available to the university from vending machine receipts. The goal of this fund is to develop the university's human resources through staff development and employee recognition. The intent is to supplement State funding for these purposes, not to replace it.

An employee may apply for reimbursement from this fund of up to $200 per fiscal year for training and development activities as described in the guidelines below. Employees must be at least half-time to access the fund.

Guidelines

The fund shall be used for:

  1. Training and development of university personnel attending seminars, workshops, continuing education units (CEU's) offered by professional organizations, or other work-related training sessions. Such training must benefit both the employee and the University. The maximum subsidy for a work-related training session shall be one-half of the registration costs, not to exceed $100. Employees may apply once per term.

    1. Job-related training or management skill development received from university classes, community education, and Lane Community College classes. There shall be a maximum tuition payment for any one person per term of $49.50 for a three credit hour class, and $66 for a four credit hour class, which will be adjusted to current staff fee rates and policies. Law School tuition reimbursements per semester are $75 for a three credit hour class and $100 for a four credit hour class. Lane Community College classes for credit will be reimbursed at one-half of the university credit hour rate up to four credit hours. Self-support classes will be reimbursed at one-half the registration fee up to $50 per person per term.

  2. A travel per diem (transportation, meals, and lodging) reimbursement for one-half of the total amount, not to exceed $100 for each training session. All travel must be approved in accordance with university travel procedures before any trip is taken for which reimbursement is sought.

NOTE: No employee may receive more than $200 per fiscal year in reimbursement from the fund.

Funding will not be available for:

  1. Conferences, conventions, or scheduled meetings arranged by a professional organization for its own membership, whether or not the applicant is a member.
  2. Training mandated by outside agencies or contracts.
  3. Books for classes.
