General Overview of OA Employment

Academic unclassified employees at UO fall into three groups: Officers of Administration, Research, or Instruction. While many of the university's employment policies apply to all three groups, the information shared on this website has been written specifically for Officers of Administration and tailored to their employment situations. It is important to note that, in many university policies and rules, OAs are included in references to "faculty," "academic employees," or "administrative faculty."

Officers of Administration (OAs) at the University of Oregon hold a wide range of positions: supervisors, managers, administrators, confidential office workers, and advisors, counselors and professional academic support. They play an essential role in upholding and contributing to the mission of the University of Oregon by:

  • effectively managing programs, people, resources and facilities;
  • providing professional services and support which create an environment that enhances students' educational, social and personal growth; and
  • furnishing long-range strategic planning and overall leadership and direction for departments and the institution as a whole.

This website contains an overview of policies and practices along with links to the relevant source documents (e.g., policies, administrative rules, Faculty Handbook, etc.), which furnish comprehensive information in greater detail. This website provides only general information and is not an employment contract.
