Position:
The Department of Education Studies in the College of Education at the University of Oregon is seeking to fill an open-rank tenure-track professor position (with preference for advanced Assistant or Associate rank candidates) in Language and Literacy Education for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Classrooms.

The person selected for this faculty position may teach in the Department's undergraduate program in Educational Foundations, master's program in Curriculum and Teaching leading to licensure with an embedded ESOL endorsement, and Ph.D. program in Critical and Sociocultural Studies in Education. Additionally the successful candidate will contribute to the expansion of the College's outreach programs that provide a reading endorsement and/or ESOL endorsement to in-service teachers.

The successful candidate will establish and maintain a record of scholarly productivity as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications, acquisition of external funding, and presentations at national conferences; and provide service to the institution, profession, and community.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have all of the following:

*Ph.D. in education or a related field;
*Demonstrated expertise in literacy curriculum and pedagogy in K-12 education with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: reading comprehension, reading to learn content, critical literacy, multi-media or new media literacy, literacy and technology, foundations of literacy education, and/or literacy assessment;
*Evidence of sustained inquiry on literacy education for culturally and linguistically diverse classroom populations;
*Evidence of a commitment to addressing social justice issues in research on language and literacy education that supports multiliteracy and multicultural education outcomes;
*Knowledge of and experience advocating for multiple approaches to literacy instruction;
*Ability to work with students and faculty across a variety of disciplines;
*Evidence of ability to conduct a focused program of research and scholarship appropriate to rank;
*Evidence of teaching excellence;
*Strong writing and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who have one or more of the following:

*K-12 Teaching experience;
*Evidence of the ability to publish in top tier general education research journals as well as journals within field of specialization;
*Evidence of ability to use assessments to inform literacy instruction;
*Evidence of ability to integrate multicultural children's literature with instruction;
*Experience and interest in providing literacy education for Native American students and communities;
*Proficiency in a second language;
*A strong foundation in a general academic discipline such as: Literature, literary criticism, linguistics, sociology, anthropology, psychology, social psychology, cultural psychology, cultural studies (including diasporic studies), Native American Studies, ethnic studies, women's studies, history, and philosophy;
*Evidence of strong methodological preparation in any recognized area, such as critical ethnography, cultural ethnography, phenomenology, narrative inquiry, feminist innovations in social science methodology, post-colonial innovations in social science methodology, hierarchical linear modeling, structural equation modeling, single subject designs, etc;
*Experience in writing, directing, or participating in externally funded projects; and
*Evidence of participation in national professional organizations.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be required to teach literacy and reading education courses at the Ph.D., Master's, undergraduate, and/or continuing education level. They will additionally be required to teach in at least one of the following areas: (1) learning, teaching, and assessment, (2) elementary or secondary language arts education, (3) qualitative research methodology, (4) cultural difference in educational settings, (5) curriculum theory, (6) ESOL education courses, (7) reading across the curriculum, and/or in our (8) Native American language and cultural revitalization program. Other duties will include advising Ph.D. students, directing their research, providing consultation to students and faculty, and establishing an independent research program leading to publication.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
