POSITION: Music Education

RANK & SALARY: Tenure-track appointment. Assistant Professor, salary commensurate with training and experience.

STARTING DATE: September 16, 2010

DUTIES: Primary responsibilities include teaching music education courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, including teaching, directing, and supervising graduate research. Additional courses and responsibilities assigned are dependent upon departmental needs and candidate's expertise and can include curriculum development, assessment, technology, psychology of music, supervision of student teachers, and advising graduate and undergraduate students. Maintain an active program of appropriate research/scholarly, creative activity. Serve on committees and perform other appropriate university service. Position provides opportunities for Summer Session instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in Music Education by Fall 2010 required. Evidence of an exemplary record of teaching, including a minimum of three years in public schools. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of publication/research, experience in guiding graduate research, expertise in areas of research, statistics, measurement and evaluation, and the ability to produce scholarly writing and research sufficient to achieve tenure. We seek candidates with the demonstrated potential to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

SCHOOL: The School of Music and Dance has an enrollment of more than 400 music majors, 65 dance majors, and a faculty and staff of 100 plus 80 Graduate Teaching Fellows. A wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Music Education are offered including a B.M., Fifth-year program for Initial Teacher Licensure, M.M., and Ph.D. The music education program has consistently placed 100% of its graduates in teaching positions. The School is designated as the only full-range professional school of music and dance in the Oregon University System.

The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance celebrated its centennial in 1986 and has been a member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1928.
