o The University of Oregon Erb Memorial Union invites applications for a part-time (.5 FTE) Stage Production Coordinator in the Cultural Forum. The Cultural Forum provides students extra-curricular experience, including lecture series, performing arts, musical events, films, and visual arts, which enhance their academic experience at the University of Oregon.
o The event-driven nature of the work requires employees to maintain a flexible schedule from week-to-week, including many evening and weekend shifts. This is a limited duration position that is expected to continue until 6/30/10 but may continue depending on funding.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:

... three years of experience as a stage hand or performance event manager; OR
... an associate's degree in Stage Management and at least one year of experience as a stage hand; OR
... an equivalent combination of training and experience demonstrating possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of this classification.

Position also requires at least one year of experience with in a multi-use, performance-based facility, including programming and operation; experience must include event management (including, facility setup and security), familiarity with interpreting laws, rules, and regulations; familiarity with enforcing policies and procedures; and knowledge of technical support, maintenance and repair of sound, lighting, and audiovisual equipment; excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position plans, sets up, runs and strikes events at theaters or auditoriums, on and off-campus, produced by the Cultural Forum. Duties include:
... assuring the smooth and timely setup, rehearsal, performance, and striking for events; coordinating technical activities during performances, including instructing and directing student crews and volunteers in ticket taking, ushering, monitoring, security, production needs and other support activities; overseeing crews in setting up lighting and sound systems; installing special flooring, curtains and rigging; setting sues and making other arrangements; instructing students on staging methods, event management, and safety.
... performance preparation, including meeting with representatives of event and venue to determine requirements; working with Program coordinator to plan number and makeup of student crews, volunteers, contracted professionals appropriate for the type of production; assisting in providing oversight of day to day event operations, including scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, and technical assistance.
... consulting with academic or administrative managers regarding technical feasibility of scheduling events; assisting student program coordinators in programming decision making; setting up and operating performance equipment, such as sound and lights, making minor carpentry repairs, and changing light bulbs; inspecting and changing instruments and ordering replacements.

3. Describe your experience with supervision or lead work, including hiring, training, scheduling, and giving work assignments. Indicate the number of people you supervised or led and the nature of the work they performed.

4. Please describe customer service skills that you would bring to this position. Indicate experience that demonstrates your ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers from diverse backgrounds and cultures in situations that may be stressful.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Access to own transportation required since events often occur in the evening and on weekends outside of public transportation schedules. Requires ability to to work extended periods of time with walking and standing on hard surfaces. Requires the ability to work from ladders, to bend, push, pull, grasp, and lift up to 50 pounds Often requires setting up large staging units and sound equipment Ability to work inside and outside a wide range of environmental conditions.
