o The University of Oregon College of Education invites applications for part-time (.5 FTE) Office Specialist 1 in the Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior (IVDB).
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between September 1, 2009, and June 30, 2011.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:

... one year of general clerical experience which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents; OR
... completion of courses or training in Office Technology; OR
... an equivalent combination of training and experience.

In addition,requires a keyboard speed of at least 55 wpm, experience with word processing and database computer applications (preferred experience with MS Office Suite and Banner), excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures; strong attention to detail, ability to perform multiple tasks, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides clerical support to the Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior and Center on Human Development, and to programs supported by that office. Duties include:
... greeting clients and guests; answering the telephone, taking messages, transferring calls, and making referrals; providing general information in response to telephone calls or correspondence; scheduling appointments.
... word processing reports, correspondence, forms, and other documents; serving as backup for receptionist; assisting with mail pic up and distribution; scheduling rooms and arranging catering; assisting in troubleshooting problems with office equipment; organizing and maintaining filing systems for Co-Director and grant data; overseeing databases related to IVDB activities for mailing and data collection; maintaining desk manual.
... paying invoices and creating journal vouchers; preparing purchase orders; creating deposit slips for income accounts; assisting in making travel arrangements, processing related forms and reimbursements; printing monthly roster and leave balance reports; assisting in resolving payroll problems.
