o intoCAREERS at the University of Oregon invites applications for full-time Publications Editor. intoCAREERS is a research and service center that develops and disseminates career planning software and information.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between September 1, 2009, and June 30, 2011.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... four years of experience as an editor reviewing and correcting written materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors and modifying copy to conform to standards of style, length and ease of understanding. A bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or related field may substitute for two years of the required experience.
Position requires demonstrated ability to write for the ninth-grade reading level; ability to create content that will appeal to high school students and adults; ability to edit and proof materials; skill in gathering and synthesizing information and evaluating the quality of information gathered; ability to organize and carry-out multiple projects with overlapping deadlines requiring a high level of attention to detail; ability to work independently and in teams; knowledge of Word 2000 or better; ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position writes new or revises existing content for the Career Information System (CIS). Duties include:
... writing new articles about information in or related to CIS content and presenting content that is engaging to high school students and other users; revising existing content to reflect latest data or other changes; editing content written by coworkers; developing timelines and scheduling projects and monitoring for timely completion.
... researching information for articles or other content by contacting professional organizations or reviewing educational, government, or organizational Internet sites; communicating with other staff to identify information needs and procedures for gathering and presenting information to meet objectives.
... maintaining HTML files, and revising text, adding graphics, and formatting tables; performing quality control of displayed materials; reviewing content for accuracy, consistency, sound analysis, and clarity.
