o The University of Oregon Service for Student Athletes office invites applications part-time (.75 FTE) Building Monitor (Office Assistant). Position works a flexible schedule according to departmental needs and will include work during non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and possible split shifts. This position is eligible for shift differential for all hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and any work on Saturday and Sunday.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the person appointed to this position may be required to take unpaid furlough days between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:

... completion of courses or training in office technology; OR
... one year of general clerical experience; OR
... equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the ability to carry out the responsibilities of this position.

In addition, this position requires excellent customer service/communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures; demonstrated experience working in a position requiring high level of reliability and trustworthiness; ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a high-paced, student-athlete environment; experience using good judgment and problem-solving skills. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position monitors and oversees the John E. Jaqua Academic Learning Center for Student-Athletes during non-traditional work hours, including weekends. Duties include:
... reception duties, including answering questions, resolving problems, and providing information to public on new academic learning center; assisting with coordination and scheduling of building tours and events.
... performing basic routine maintenance, such as picking up litter or clearing items from exterior water feature; reporting unexpected spills or related issues to custodial staff; stocking supplies throughout the Center; opening and closing the Center as needed; assisting in the supervision of student employees.
... providing routine internal and external building observations by making regular building rounds; using proper judgment on when to contact proper authorities in the event of security or other problems.
... communicating with coffee shop personnel and Services for Student Athletes staff to adjust normal work routine in order to accommodate immediate needs to the building and any site observations; communicating and coordinating with building engineer regarding any building system failure.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires ability to lift up to 25 pounds, walk extensively, ascend and descend stairs, and observe using multiple senses (sight, hearing, smell) to monitor building use. Position will be required to make exterior building observations in weather that may be inclement.
