o The University of Oregon Office of Communications invites applications for two graphic designer positions (Public Information Representative 2) in Design and Editing Services; one position is part-time (.5 FTE) and one is full-time. These are limited duration positions expected to last less than two years, although they may continue longer based on additional funding.
o These are classified positions represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, and sick and vacation leave.
o Due to budgetary shortfalls, the individuals appointed to these position may be required to take mandatory unpaid leave days between September 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.

TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... three years of experience gathering, designing, and producing information to be presented to the public. At least one year of this experience must have involved participating in planning and presenting an organization's public information program.
A bachelor's degree in fine arts, journalism, or a closely related field may substitute for up to two years of the general experience but will not substitute for the one year of specialized experience.
Position requires mastery of graphic design computer programs (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat); working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Macintosh platform; mastery of prepress print production; commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity. Previous experience with museum marketing and/or design school marketing preferred; experience with web design desired.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
These positions are responsible for designing public information materials. One position develops school identity and branding for overall school and unit specific materials for Architecture and Allied Arts (AAA). Another position maintains public information for the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA), in conjunction with Design and Editing Services. These positions produce publications and web pages, and oversee their production, that inform select audiences about University of Oregon programs. Duties include:
... creating artwork, both print and/or website-related, to convey information effectively; specifying type styles, ink colors, paper, photographs or any illustrations used in layout; working with editor to refine client's written material for clarity, effectiveness, and grammar; preparing publication for client proofing.
... using graphic design programs to create layout of the publication for printer, placing type and photos or illustrations on each page with specific instructions to printer for folding and binding; making assignments for photographers and illustrators; facilitate process for getting proofs through revisions, ensuring that clients changes are marked clearly and changes made correctly; coordinating scheduling with the printer to make sure publications are printed on time; performing on-site press checks.
... meeting with clients to discuss their publications and how to reach intended audiences; making recommendations to client for efficient, economical, and effective way to convey information; developing time lines and production schedules.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS
