o The University of Oregon Library, Access Services Department, Circulation/Reserves, and Videos Section invites applications for a full-time Library Technician 2.
o This is a classified position represented by SEIU local 503, Oregon Public Employees Union.
o University of Oregon positions that are at least half-time are eligible for excellent benefits, including health and dental, employer-paid retirement, and tuition benefits for employee or an eligible dependent, sick and vacation leave.

o Position works Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
TO QUALIFY YOU MUST HAVE:
... one year of experience as a Library Technician which included filing and retrieval of library materials and contact with the public; OR
... an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Position requires with word-processing, database, and spreadsheet computer applications; knowledge of multiple computer systems' principles; ability to understand library cataloging; ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures; excellent judgment and problem solving skills. Preference for candidates with circulation experience in an academic library setting. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position serves the library mission by providing access to library resources at the Checkout/Information and Reserves/Video desks. Duties include:
... answering patrons questions regarding the library, their access to materials, their use of the catalog, and related matters.
... performing circulation functions; retrieving reserve items; checking out items; placing holds; creating patron and bibliographic records, searching, correcting and updating information in on-line catalog; shelving reserve items; searching for lost and missing books.
... managing Knight course reserves process; scanning materials for e-reserves and Interlibrary Loan; creating digitized text and image files; adding files to web sites and linking web sites to reserve courses; troubleshooting problem files by rescanning or cropping files.
... reviewing duplicated materials submitted for reserve for copyright compliance; processing reserve request lists and personal materials, including logging request lists, creating course records, assigning call numbers and labeling; creating bibliographic and item records for personal materials; creating folders and notebooks for reserve shelves.

1. Describe your experience providing customer service in a library setting. Tell us how you define high quality public service, and share some innovative ways you have provided this kind of service.
2. Staff who succeed here are adaptable-as our library is always changing. Our staff think about ways to enhance the services we provide and are willing to move from old processes that may not be as effective in today's library. Give examples of how you contributed in supporting change in an organization or institution.
3. Describe work experience you have had that required the ability to handle several tasks at once with frequent interruptions, shift priorities as needed, and work within the pressure of deadlines.
4. This position is responsible for discussing copyright issues with faculty. Sometimes the faculty have to be told that materials they want on reserve cannot be processed without copyright permission. Some faculty aren't happy with this news. Describe your experience in communicating negative information to people, especially when you cannot make exceptions to laws or policies.
