Guidance for Renewing or Rehiring Non-Renewed NTTF into Career and Pro Tempore Positions

These guidelines aim to help clarify the options and requirements associated with (re)hiring non-tenure track faculty (NTTF) who have been non-renewed by the university.

When reviewing these guidelines, it is important to recognize the differences between a position and a person – whether a position is appropriately career or pro tem is dependent on the nature of the position and whether there is ongoing need for the position. Additionally, there is no mandatory preference for rehiring based on seniority. A department or program should consider its programmatic and pedagogical needs in deciding which faculty member to rehire.
